Two fined for redirecting calls from creditors to public security ministry

Two people in Quang Nam Province have been fined for redirecting calls from their creditor to the public security ministry’s hotline.

The local police said Monday they were each fined VND5.5 million ($234.62).

An investigation found that the two unidentified people had borrowed money through a mobile app, and the lender called them and their relatives frequently about repayment.

The duo decided to redirect these calls to the Ministry of Public Security’s hotline, an action deemed to have severely impacted the reception and processing of information about national security.

Two months ago police in Bac Giang Province had fined two men VND7.5 million each for the same offense.

The ministry hotline is meant for complaints about police corruption.
