Two people in HCMC died in a house fire in Binh Thanh District on Tuesday.
Flames and smokes came out from the first floor of a house in an alley of Nguyen Cuu Van Street at around 6:30 p.m. People tried to extinguish the fire but failed. The fire soon spread to upper floors, where two people were trapped in.
Around 20 firefighters were dispatched to the scene in 10 minutes. The fire was put under control at around 7 p.m., but the two trapped people had already died when firefighters entered the house.
A representative of the police of Binh Thanh District said the house’s owner is a teacher, who locked the door after going out. Inside the house were their 91-year-old mother and 55-year-old brother, who was mentally challenged. The house only has one entrance through the front door.
