A bus carrying 22 passengers plunged off a cliff along an expressway in Da Nang, leaving three dead and three others heavily injured.
The accident took place around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday as Phuong Thanh Tung, 36, was driving the 40-seat bus owned by Quynh Huong company on La Son – Tuy Loan Expressway connecting Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang City in central Vietnam.
The bus roamed through an embankment and plunged off a cliff along the expressway in Da Nang’s Hoa Vang District, falling into an abyss that is 10 m below the expressway.
The crash killed three on the spot.
Three others suffered severe injuries and have been taken to a Da Nang General Hospital.
It is still not clear if the driver was among the fatalities.
At the time of the accident, it was raining heavily and the road was deserted.

La Son – Tuy Loan Expressway stretches 77.5 km long, with 36 km in Thua Thien Hue and 41.5 km in Da Nang.
The 12-m-wide expressway was put into service in April 2022 with two lanes, allowing vehicles to move at a maximum speed of 80 kph. There is currently not enough lamppost along the road.
Drivers said the expressway goes around winding mountainous areas but there are no concrete medians and no lights at some parts, posing a lot of accident risks.
