The technology of Euro 2024 ball

The ball used for the Euro semifinals and final is called Fussballliebe Finale. Compared to the Fussballliebe (which means love for football) that was used from the group stage to the quarterfinals, it is no different in structure, only in color. The white color of the ball is replaced with silver. The black, red and yellow details inspired by the German host flag are kept intact and the green color was removed.

The two versions of the ball are both made from an ultra-light polyurethane with good elasticity. The outer shell consists of 20 pieces to enhance aerodynamics.

Inside the ball is a technology to help referees determine handball or offside situations more accurately. This technology tracks all elements of the ball’s movement, working at the same time as semi-automatic offside detection technology, which supports VAR in making decisions. A sensor inside the ball is powered by a rechargeable battery similar to those in a smartphone. This is the first time a technology-integrated ball has been used in the Euros after the success of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Adidas, the manufacturer of the ball, said players from the four semifinalists, Spain, France, England and Netherlands, have been training with the ball before the games. UEFA has also tested the new ball and ensured it stands out on the field without reflecting light when changing the color from white to silver.

The final of Euro 2024 between Spain and England will take place on June 14 at Olympiastadion stadium in Berlin.
