Thailand striker eager to score against Vietnam

Thai striker Supachai Jaided believes Vietnam will lose their clean sheet streak when facing Thailand in AFF Cup semifinals Thursday.

“The whole Thailand team are ready to play Vietnam,” Supachai told Thai newspaper Siam Sport on Wednesday. “We will try our best to stay focused. Our goal is clear. Thailand will win if we have concentration, teamwork and follow the strategy of the coach. I believe Thailand will score against Vietnam and if I have a chance, I want to do that myself,” Jaided said.

Vietnam finished the group stage of AFF Cup without conceding a goal. However, they failed to take the top spot as Indonesia also have 10 points like Vietnam but scored more goals. Therefore, Vietnam have to face group A leader Thailand in the semifinals.

“We have rewatched the games of Vietnam. We will find their weaknesses and exploit them. We will fight with our true spirit to achieve the target,” Jaided added.

Thailand haven’t won against Vietnam since 2017. In their recent four encounters, the former lost two and drew two.

The first leg of the semifinals between five-time winners Thailand and defending championsVietnam will take place at 7:30 p.m. (Hanoi time) on Thursday and the second leg, on Sunday.

VnExpress International will report the matches live.
