Thailand launches online notification for foreigners staying over 90 days

The Thai Immigration Bureau has debuted an online reporting system that allows foreigners to inform of their intention to stay in Thailand for over 90 days.

The so-called online 90-day notification service was launched as part of Prime Minister SretthaThavisin’s policy to boost the arrival of foreign tourists as Thailand seeks to attract 35-36 million foreigners this year, The Nation reported.

With the new service, foreigners can notify the bureau 15 days prior to the expiration of their 90-day stay by either writing an email or filling a form at the bureau’s website, Phuket News reported.

Once registered, they will receive a password via email, allowing them to log in and submit their 90-day notification.

Approval results will be sent via email.

Thailand allows foreigners to stay no more than 90 days.

If a foreigner staying over 90 days without notifying the immigration bureau or notifying the immigration bureau later than the set period, they could face a fine of 2,000 baht.

Earlier, foreigners were required to inform immigration officials in person of their current address or nominate someone else to do it on their behalf.
