Thailand are just like other teams: Vietnam head coach

Coach Park Hang-seo is satisfied with Vietnam’s 4-0 win against Cambodia despite only placing second in group B and having to play Thailand in the AFF Cup semifinals.

“The players have tried their best to get this victory. But since Indonesia scored more goals than us we will accept the second position. Nevertheless, I’m happy with this game,” Park said in the post-match press conference on Sunday.

Vietnam fielded the strongest lineup in the game with Cambodia and netted four goals, of which two are from Nguyen Tien Linh, one from Bui Tien Dung and the other by Nguyen Quang Hai. However, that was not enough for the team to take the stop spot of group B as Indonesia won 4-1 against Malaysia, which put them above Vietnam in the number of goals (both teams have 10 points). In the semifinals, Vietnam will face group A topper Thailand while Indonesia play host Singapore.

“Thailand are a strong team. But I think that in this round, playing Thailand or any other team is the same. Vietnam will give the best to earn a good result in the semifinals. At the moment, we need to talk about nutrition. We had to eat prepared meals. That is a problem in this tournament. Vietnam Football Federation tried to support us but that was not enough,” Park said.

Since Park became the national coach in 2017, Vietnam haven’t lost against Thailand. They have had one win and three draws.

Vietnam will play the first leg of the semifinals with Thailand on December 23 and the second leg three days later.
