A video of a tourist driving around Pattaya, Thailand, in a Bentley with a lion cub in the back has gone viral on social media, prompting authorities to investigate.
In a video that appeared on Thai social media on Jan. 21, the calm cub wearing a yellow collar was seen cruising down the streets of Pattaya, famous for its nightlife.
The video has received over 36,000 likes as of Thursday.
According to local residents, the foreign man takes the cub to Dongtan beach every day in the car before returning in the evening.
The owner of the lion cub is a Thai woman identified as Sawangjit Kosoongnern who has a license to keep it in Ratchaburi Province, 180 kilometers from Pattaya, The Pattaya News reported.
But she is not permitted to take it to a different location without approval from local authorities.
The Nation Thailand said the foreign man in the Bentley is her friend and the police are looking for him.
Lions are a popular pet for wealthy Thais and foreigners, and carry a price tag of 500,000 baht (US$13,937), according to The Star.
Owning exotic animals is legal in Thailand, but they need to be registered.
