Teen girl dies after second Pfizer vaccine shot

The girl had her first Pfizer dose on December 3, 2021, after which she experienced dizziness and difficulty breathing. She was taken to the Ha Hoa District medical center for treatment and later recovered.

On Monday the girl had her second dose. Her mother told health workers about the girl’s side effects following her first shot, but workers told her to get the second shot anyway. 20 minutes following her shot, the girl experienced chest tightness, dizziness, difficulty breathing and seizures.

She received emergency treatment on the spot before being transferred to the Ha Hoa District medical center. When she arrived, she began to vomit blood, fell into a coma and her heart stopped. Her family received news that she was dead Tuesday morning.

The Phu Tho Department of Health has not confirmed the cause of death yet.

Vietnam is vaccinating its children aged 12-17 using the Pfizer vaccine. Four children, between 12 and 16 years old, had died following their shots between late November and early December. A 23-year-old woman died following her second Pfizer vaccine shot early this month.

Authorities said their causes of death were due to “overreaction” to the vaccine.
