South Korean actress Jang Shin Young forgives husband’s infidelity for the sake of children

South Korean actress Jang Shin Young has opened up about her efforts to move past her husband Kang Kyung Joon’s cheating scandal, focusing on preserving their family for the sake of their children.

On Aug. 19, Jang addressed the scandal publicly for the first time via social media, expressing regret for the pain their private issues have caused others, according to News1.

She revealed that she and Kang have had many discussions to resolve the situation, acknowledging their own faults and working towards reconciliation. “For the sake of our children, we are trying to rebuild our family and start anew. I hope people can forgive Kang Kyung Joon and stop criticizing him,” Jang said.

Jang also shared that the past eight months have been particularly difficult. To protect her children, she reminded herself to stay strong and joyful, despite the overwhelming sorrow.

Kang’s reputation took a hit at the end of 2023 when a man, referred to as A, accused him of having an affair with his wife. A released messages allegedly sent by Kang to his wife, including phrases like “I want to hold you” and “I love you.”

A subsequently sued Kang for 50 million won (US$37,300) for emotional distress. Despite Kang’s attempts to reconcile and resolve the issue out of court, the efforts failed. In late July, the court ruled in A’s favor, and Kang’s side accepted the demands.

Jang and Kang tied the knot in 2018 after dating for five years. They have two children, with the eldest being from Jang’s previous marriage and their younger son born in 2019.

The family captured the hearts of audiences on shows like “Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 – You Are My Destiny” and “The Return of Superman,” where they showcased their joyful blended family, according to Allkpop.

Jang, 40, has been in the entertainment industry for 23 years, both as an actress and a singer, with notable roles in dramas like “The Road Home,” “I Am Legend,” “Flower of Revenge,” “The Chaser,” and “Bad Guys 2.” Kang, a year older than Jang, made his debut in 2004 with the drama “Nonstop 5” and has since starred in shows such as “Sisters-in-Law,” “A Daughter Just Like You,” and “To the Beautiful You.” He has remained out of the public eye since the scandal erupted.
