Hotel booking data from online travel platform Agoda indicates South Koreans will top the list of visitors to Vietnam during the Lunar New Year holidays next month.
They will be followed by tourists from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan, Agoda reported based on bookings made between Jan. 1 and 15 for checking in on Feb. 9 or 10 and staying a minimum of two nights.
Ho Chi Minh City, famous for its annual flower streets and dragon dance performances, is the top destination at the start of the Year of the Dragon, and is followed by Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hanoi, and Phu Quoc.
Domestic tourism also booms with people flocking to tourist hotspots.
This year Da Lat is the favorite destination for Vietnamese tourists, followed by Nha Trang, Da Nang, HCMC, and Phan Thiet.
For outbound travelers, Bangkok is the preferred destination followed by Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo, according to Agoda.
Vietnam received 12.6 million foreign visitors last year, around 70% of pre-pandemic levels.
This year it targets 18 million.
