The news was disclosed on Monday by a representative of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, as reported by The Korea Times.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hwang’s booking is in line with the Sexual Violence Punishment Act’s prohibition of disclosing a victim’s personal information.

Hwang’s illegal filming controversy came to light in June last year when explicit images and videos of him with women surfaced on Instagram. A woman then claimed that Hwang had recorded her during sexual activity without her consent.

In a statement issued in November last year, Hwang maintained that the video was consensual, describing the woman as a married television personality. However, there has been criticism of Hwang for sharing information about the victim that could suggest her identity, potentially causing her secondary harm.

In response to the controversy, the Korea Football Association declared in the same month that Hwang would not be selected for the national team pending the investigation’s outcome, as per The Korea Herald.

Hwang, 32, debuted with the South Korean national team in 2015. He has since participated in 62 games, scoring 19 goals for South Korea.

He is presently playing for Norwich City Football Club on loan from Nottingham Forest.
