ĐÀ NẴNG — Located in a small alley on Hoàng Văn Thái Street in Đà Nẵng, the Tâm Ánh Minh Industrial Garment Centre has become a ‘home’ for many people with disabilities.
The centre, in Hòa Minh Ward, Liên Chiểu District, helps people with disabilities get jobs, find joy in life and integrate into the community.
It belongs to the Đà Nẵng Association for People with Disabilities and Orphans Protection.
In the past two years, the centre has created regular jobs for 50 people with disabilities.
Employee Trương Đình Tuấn suffered a brain trauma after a traffic accident 10 years ago. He still has poor memory, and has mobility issues.
In the past, he sold lottery tickets but struggled to make a decent wage.
A friend told him about the centre and now he has free accommodation and a stable income
Tuấn feels lucky to be here.
“Now, I feel very happy because I live here with a very stable salary and more especially, I have love from everyone around, he said.
“All of us are living very harmoniously.
“I hope all departments and benefactors will pay more attention to people with disabilities.”
In this home, people with disabilities receive vocational training and have jobs to increase their income.
Their main products they make are uniforms, sun-protective jackets, T-shirts and hats. The products have beautiful designs and many businesses and schools have signed contracts to buy them.
Nguyễn Hoàng Long, chairman of the Đà Nẵng Association for People with Disabilities and Orphans Protection, wants to connect with partners to set up stores at some markets and supermarkets to sell the products, and help more people with disabilities to work in the centre.
“After training, disabled people have jobs and income,” said Long.
“This is a very encouraging result. They have lived together here as a family. Recently, support from the State, non-governmental organisations has brought livelihoods, health care and education for people with disabilities and orphans. It is a great encouragement and has great humanistic meaning.”
Đà Nẵng has nearly 16,000 people with disabilities.
Every year, the city supports people with disabilities to get preferential loans to start up businesses and integrate into the community.
In the period from 2021-30, Đà Nẵng has set a target that all of poor families with disabilities living in temporary houses, degraded and severely damaged houses will be financially supported for new homes.
It also aims to provide vocational training to 1,500 people.
Lê Văn Minh, deputy director of the Đà Nẵng Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that the city always encouraged organisations and individuals to set up vocational training centres and enterprises for people with disabilities.
He said: “Đà Nẵng City has supported many people with disabilities, they have jobs to assert themselves and have access to social services. In the near future, the city will continue to implement support policies for people with disabilities including preferential loans and capital for them.” — VnExpress News
