Saigon revives polluted canal after two years

In April 2020, a project was launched to dredge the canal and upgrade roads and bridges along the waterway.

The project was carried out on a section of 1.4 kilometers and was finished after two years.

Roads and bridges along the canal have been renovated and expanded.

The renovation also supplied embankments for the canal, railings of more than 1.5 meters high, and sidewalks of nearly one meter wide.

Roads along the canal are highlighted with trees and lighting systems.

A park was built over the canal.
A local named Phan Van Tien who lives next to the canal said: “In the past, the road running along the canal was mainly soil and there were no railings on either sides while the canal was filled with garbage and bad odors. Now it is much cleaner and fresher.”

An area where Nuoc Den Canal meets Tham Luong Canal in Binh Tan District is filled up with trash and water hyacinth.
Ho Chi Minh City is also working on a project to upgrade Tham Luong.
