Fire engulfed the top floor of a five-floor building on Dong Khoi Street in downtown Saigon after midnight Friday, sending people hanging out in the area to flee in panic.
The fire covered around 100 square meters on the top floor of Seaprodex building, visible from hundreds of meters away.
It came with sounds of explosion.
“The fire occurred in the kitchen area, so it could have been a gas cylinder explosion,” Van Huy, a 60-year-old man living opposite the building, said.

The building is around 50 meters from Nguyen Hue walking street, a popular weekend destination.
It hosts dozens of restaurants and coffee shops, which were closed during the fire so there were no casualties or injuries.
Firefighters put out the flames in 30 minutes, but many properties have been destroyed. The cause is being investigated.
