Rescuers save Chinese seaman injured at work

KHÁNH HÒA — A Chinese seaman who was in distress and injured at sea has been saved by Vietnamese marine rescuers.

He was brought to land by the Việt Nam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre team and is now recovering in hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

The sailor, 37, was working on the boat when there was an accident and he severed his finger.

At 7.30pm on Saturday, the centre received signals from the Chinese ship Xin Dan Yang Ship, which was travelling from China to Singapore.

When it arrived in an area, which is 30 nautical miles east of Nha Trang City, the captain reported an emergency.

Immediately upon receiving the SOS call from the ship, the centre kept in regular contact and directly worked with the crew to update the patient’s condition and provide guidance on initial medical aids to ensure the sailor’s life.

However, his condition became increasingly worse due to heavy bleeding, leading to difficulty breathing, continuous high fever and weak health.

Under the direction of the National Committee for Disaster Response, Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Transport, and the Viêt Nam Maritime Administration, the centre assigned a ship permanently stationed in Nha Trang City and a medical emergency team to perform supportive work.

Sailor Liang Fengshan was brought to the Khánh Hòa Provincial General Hospital for treatment at 11.50pm on the same day. — VNS
