A high-end apartment that reportedly triggered the murder of Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi appears to have been sold for HK$72.8 million ($9.27 million), according to a property portal.
It was not clear when the apartment, which was originally listed for sale on the portal with an asking price of around HK$67 million, was sold. Midland Realty, the property portal owner, declined to reveal more information, as reported by The Strait Times.
On Monday, Choi’s mother filed a writ at the High Court to restrain Kwong Kau, 65, one of three suspects accused of murdering Choi, from selling the flat in the exclusive Kadoorie Hill neighborhood in Ho Man Tin. The writ sought to declare Choi as the beneficial owner of the 1,820 square-feet flat, South China Morning Post reported.
Choi’s gruesome murder has attracted worldwide media attention. She was reported missing on Feb. 21 and several body parts, including her legs, were found on Feb. 24.
Her head was found two days later, together with other body parts, in a large soup pot in a rented village house in Tai Po, a suburb of Hong Kong. Officers also seized a meat grinder, electric saw and knives.
Kwong and three others have been charged in connection with the brutal killing. The three are Kwong’s brother, father and mother. They are scheduled to appear in court again on May 8.
