PM tells HCMC to finish Ring Road No.3 earlier than planned

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed HCMC to get a move on with its Ring Road No.3 construction and in fact finish it ahead of schedule.

Construction of the 8.2-kilometer section of the road passing through the city has to be completed by April 2025, he said while inspecting the work Sunday.

Work on it began last September and was scheduled to be completed by September 2025.

The ring road will run over 90 kilometers (56 miles), also passing through Binh Duong, Long An and Dong Nai provinces, all industrial hubs.

Since it was approved in 2011, only 16 km have been completed, all in Binh Duong.

It is expected to cost VND75.38 trillion (US$3.2 billion) with funding coming from the government and official development assistance loans.

The HCMC section will link the city with Dong Nai and include the Nhon Trach Bridge over the Dong Nai River.

Tran Van Thi, director of the Ministry of Transport’s My Thuan Project Management Board, which manages the bridge construction, said HCMC has handed over land for the bridge construction, but Dong Nai has not.

The bridge and roads leading to it will run two kilometers in HCMC and 6.3 kilometers in Dong Nai.

The board has urged Dong Nai authorities to speed up work and hand over the land this quarter, he said.

HCMC and its neighbors agree the ring road is necessary to tackle chronic traffic jams in several places.

When finished, it will have eight lanes allowing vehicles to travel at 100 kph.
