Plane collides with light pole at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport

The pole was damaged and the plane’s wing dented. No passengers onboard suffered any injuries and the crash didn’t cause any disruption to other flights.

HỒ CHÍ MINH CITY A plane taxiing on a runway at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport in HCM City struck a light pole after the pilot took a wrong turning.

The Eva Air flight was heading to Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan China when the collision took place just after 4pm on July 3.

The pole was damaged and the plane’s wing dented. No passengers onboard suffered any injuries and the crash didn’t cause any disruption to other flights.

According to airport staff the Boeing 777, flight number BR396 (SGN-TPE), was departing from Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport (HCM City) to Taoyuan International Airport (Taiwan-China).

While taxiing to the runway, the aircraft mistakenly entered a parking bay, causing damage to a lighting pole and denting the left wing of the plane.

Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport dealt with the incident and have prepared a report for the aviation regulatory authorities.

At the time of the incident, the airport’s runways, signal markings, and signage were all safe for operation.

According to the summer operation plan (from June 2024 to August 2024) for Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport, there are an average of 680 flights per day, with weekend days expected to reach up to 710 flights. The average daily passenger count is anticipated to be around 110,000.

The airport has proactively held pre-summer meetings and established unified plans with units involved in airport operations. The airport also closely coordinates with airlines in updating flight schedules, resources, ground service equipment and passenger services.

The airport has also proactively reviewed infrastructure, processes, operation plans, and resource allocation; inspected and maintained technical systems to ensure equipment readiness.
