People in central Vietnam told to stay indoors as Storm Noru approaches

Quang Nam Province has let all workers leave their office from Tuesday noon.

Nguyen Van Phuong, chairman of Thua Thien-Hue Province, have ordered all wet markets to stop operation from 3 p.m. on Tuesday while industrial parks must have workers to stay for Tuesday night.

In Binh Dinh Province, militiamen have been sent over to help local people reinforce their houses, including placed sandbags on the roof.

The provincial chairman Pham Anh Tuan said “this is a strong storm with an unpredictable route and therefore, we are not to let our guard down.”

Phu Yen Province has ordered farmers to remove all of their seafood farming rafts to safety before 4 p.m.

Thousands of people in Quang Nam and Quang Ngai Provinces were evacuated to safety on Tuesday morning.

Thousands evacuated before Storm Noru’s arrival

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Storm Noru lay around 270 kilometers from the central coast from Da Nang to Quang Ngai and carried a wind speed of 183 kph, up from 166 kph late Monday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

At around 1 a.m. Wednesday, the storm will lay along the coast from Thua Thien Thue to Quang Ngai Provinces with winds of 150-183 kph.
