New V-Pop music video goes viral

Singer Hoang Thuy Linh’s new folk-game-inspired music video for “Bo Xi Bo” (Pause Pause) has been trending strong on YouTube.

The video for the dance-pop song composed by DTAP reached 1.2 million views on Dec. 17, four days after its release, topping YouTube Vietnam’s trending charts.

Linh was inspired to shoot the video by childhood games such as jumping rope and rock-paper-scissors. Dance scenes featuring the games were choreographed for the video, and the sequences have turned out to be a big part of why the song has become so popular.

The song’s lyrics, which contain numerous Vietnamese puns, are about having the courage to end a relationship.

Linh said the song is about a necessary lesson all adults must learn: how to deliberately say goodbye to doomed love.

“I hope that at the end of the year, everyone looks back and decides to let go of negative things and accept positive energy,” Linh stated.

Hoang Thuy Linh was born in 1988 in Hanoi. In 2019, she released “Hoang,” an album that encapsulated her ten years of singing. With several hits, the album combined elements of traditional Vietnamese folk music with contemporary electronic music.

Thanks to the album’s success, Linh was named Best Asian Artist Vietnam at South Korea’s 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA 2019).
