New art space, sculpture exhibition opens in Hà Nội

HÀ NỘI — A new art space called Ánh Dương (Sunshine) and a sculpture exhibition have opened in Hà Nội’s Long Biên District.

The event was organised by artists from the Hà Nội Studio Gallery in collaboration with HimLam Art Project, within an art programme themed “Đường tới Ánh Dương” (Road to Sunshine) to promote Vietnamese art and prominent contemporary artists.

The exhibition, which opened Thursday, showcases 47 artworks by 15 artists: Khổng Đỗ Tuyền, Lê Lạng Lương, Nguyễn Huy Tính, Nguyễn Ngọc Lâm, Lương Văn Việt, Phạm Thái Bình, Trần Trọng Trí, Trần An, Hoàng Mai Thiệp, Thái Nhật Minh, Lê Anh Vũ, Vũ Bình Minh, Lương Trịnh, Phạm Đình Tiến and Đinh Duy Tôn.

The works were created in 2021.

Art Director and Curator Dương Thu Hằng said all 15 artists represented the young generation of sculptures with open and bold works.

The young artists express their works in different forms, materials and shapes to create special effects and optical illusion, she told vietnamplus.

Their works not only awaken emotions and aesthetics through shapes, materials and space, but their contemporary sculptural language reaches beyond the limits of the material and combines with other art forms such as installation and lighting.

This has contributed to creating special effects and necessary visual impressions to convey to the public. They are liberating moods and ideas, according to Hằng.

Over the past 15 years, with continuous activities held in many large art centres of Hà Nội and HCM City, young sculptors have breathed new life and awakened a love for art in the country and overseas communities.

Vietnamese sculpture art is rich in legacy and has inherited ideas from the heritage of communal house sculptures associated with tradition, religion and belief.

 Through nearly a hundred years of the ups and downs of the history and resistance wars, sculpture has been shaped by socialist realism to convey cultural and political messages.

It has affirmed its new identity and visual language in the last two decades.

The event marks the beginning of art activities at Ánh Dương Art Space this year, said Hà Nội Studio Gallery manager Hoàng Nghĩa Hoàng. 

The venue hopes to inspire artists to create and express their stories. This is a space showcasing Vietnamese contemporary art and to honour tangible and intangible heritage through relics and antiquities. — VnExpress News
