HÀ NỘI — Leading golfers Natthakritta Vongtaveelap from Thailand and Ervin Chang of Malaysia won gold medals in the women’s and men’s individual events at the SEA Games 31 on May 15.
The two had a good result in the final rounds to finish top at the golf event.
Natthakritta Vongtaveelap scored 14-under-par in the final round to beat her opponents and top the podium.
The Thai player kept her momentum from the first and second rounds as she earned 5-under-par and 10-under-par.
Scoring seven-under-par in the final round, Singapore’s Aloysa Margiela Atienza Mabutas took home silver.
She also had a good start in the first round and second round with a total score of 74 and 70, respectively.
Jeneath Wong of Malaysia grabbed the bronze medal with a five-under-par score in the final round. She also scored the first and second rounds with the same 71 on May 13-14.
In the men’s event, Chang also had a perfect play of the day as he earned 7-under-par to win a gold medal.
Indonesian Amedeus Christian Susanto, who completed the final round with seven-under-par on May 15, only took silver as his results from the first and second rounds were not enough to beat Chang.
Weerawish Narkprachar did his best to keep chasing the two leaders in the final round, completing the final round with six-under-par, but he could only manage bronze.
Vietnamese golfers Nguyễn Anh Minh and Lê Khánh Hùng also achieved good results in the final round with three-under-par and one-under-par, respectively. However, the two hosts could not make the podium.
The golf event will continue with the men’s and women’s team events at Heron golf course in Vĩnh Phúc province until May 18.
