Mysterious crocodile found chilling in Mekong Delta pond

Authorities gathered dozens of people on boats with sticks and nets on Wednesday to catch the crocodile inside a pond in Vinh Loi District spanning 5,000 m2. On land, people used sticks to look for the crocodile among the reeds.

The crocodile, weighing over 10 kilograms and stretching around 2 meters, was first spotted by locals swimming in the middle of the pond. Authorities were informed about the animal and tried to find it, but failed. People also managed to take videos of the creature resting beneath coconut trees.

Nhan Anh Dung, chairman of the Long Thanh Commune People’s Committee, said authorities do not know where the crocodile came from. There used to be people who raised crocodiles in the neighborhood, but they stopped raising them 3-4 years ago, he added.

“The pond is wide and the water is deep, making it difficult to catch the crocodile,” he said. “The commune will send more people to look for the animal.”

Dung advised people to stay away from the pond to avoid danger.
