Several electronic devices, including remote controls and an LED billboard, have been found scrambling smart keys in Hanoi.
Nguyen Phuong Dong, director of the Area 1 Radio Frequency Center under the Authority of Radio Frequency Management at the Ministry of Information and Communications, said on Sunday the unit had dispatched two teams to check wavelengths in specific Hanoi neighborhoods.
For about 70 meters in front of the Thu Cuc International General Hospital on Thuy Khue Street, Tay Ho District, authorities found a house door remote malfunctioning, causing it to send out repeated signals that disrupt nearby smart keys and other remote-controlled roller doors.
At a Cellphone S shop on Lac Long Quan Street, authorities found a LED billboard emitting wavelengths also disrupting the wavelengths of smart nearby keys. The store has been ordered to stop using the LED billboard, Dong said.
At a section of Bui Thi Xuan Street behind the Central Eye Hospital in Hai Ba Trung District, authorities did not find any such devices despite reports of smart key disruptions over the last two weeks. The center said it would continue to monitor the area.
At a parking lot at the intersection of Quang Trung and Trang Thi in Hoan Kiem District, authorities also found no disruptions despite local reports of smart key malfunctions over the last few months.
On June 22, several vehicles could not be started using smart keys at an intersection between Nguyen An Ninh and Vong streets in Hai Ba Trung District. The Authority of Radio Frequency Management discovered a remote device used to control water pumps at a house on Vong Street was the cause of the disruption. After it was turned off, vehicles could be started normally.
