HÀ NỘI – Minister of Public Security Sen. Lt. Gen. Lương Tam Quang received United Nations Resident Coordinator in Việt Nam Pauline Tamesis in Hà Nội on Thursday.

Quang highly appreciated Tamesis’s active assistance to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) during the preparation and deployment of personnel to UN peacekeeping operations, as well as her support for the MPS’s cooperation programmes with UN agencies like the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

He affirmed Việt Nam’s consistent policy of supporting the UN’s centrality in the global governance system, the promotion of multilateralism and the world order based on international law and the UN Charter, along with international cooperation in settling global issues, thus helping maintain international peace and security.

The minister also highlighted the MPS’s moves to take part in UN peacekeeping operations and promote gender equality, including the partnership with UN Women.

To further enhance the MPS’s ties with UN agencies, Quang proposed the UN official continue facilitating the bilateral cooperation, with a focus on providing equipment for and assist the MPS to improve the capacity of combating trans-national crimes, including those related to drugs, human trafficking, high technology, money laundering, and terrorism.

He suggested Tamesis promote the possibility of high-level delegation exchanges and meetings to convey messages from Vietnamese Party and Government leaders, and UN leaders, while supporting Vietnam’s re-candidacy for membership of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026 – 2028 term.

Quang also called for more assistance in terms of pre-deployment training, the examination and evaluation of officers for peacekeeping operations, the training of lecturers, and the provision of training equipment and textbooks.

At the meeting, Tamesis noted that the UN welcomes and highly values efforts by the MPS in particular and the Vietnamese Government in general in participating in peacekeeping operations and resolving global issues, which have helped sustain peace, stability, and security in the world.

The official pledged that as the UN Resident Coordinator in Việt Nam, she will continue helping the MPS to carry out the training of police officers joining in the UN peacekeeping force.

She also vowed to promote cooperation programmes between the MPS and UN agencies, thus practically contributing to regional and global peace, stability, and security. VNS
