A medical worker in HCMC was assaulted by a man when giving first aid to a drunk patient who passed out in the restroom of a pub.
The public District 7 Hospital received a call asking for emergency aid at a pub in the district on Dec. 3.
A drunk male customer went to the restroom and passed out, the hospital’s director, Nguyen The Vu, said Wednesday.
When paramedics arrived, the man was still left untouched on the restroom floor.
One of the medics asked another man who was previously drinking with the patient to help lift him and put him on a stretcher but was scolded by the man.
“Why don’t you do it yourself, why ask for support?” he yelled.
After the patient had been put on the stretcher, that man went behind the medic and kicked him hard into the back.
The hospital then reported the case to the local police. Police have invited the medic to give a statement
Vu said two weeks ago, another medic of the hospital was also assaulted.

During a night shift on Nov. 22, the hospital’s emergency room received a 50-year-old man who was injured after a fall.
As a doctor was performing a surgical suture, his family member was requested to step outside, but they refused and screamed at the doctor.
That doctor decided to halt the suture and walked out of the room.
However, the family member, who appeared to be drunk, followed and slapped the doctor in the face.
Given the two assaults, Vu has asked District 7 police to come up with measures to better protect the hospital’s medical workers.
