Malaysian teacher locks first-grader in metal cage

The father of a grade 1 student in the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan has alleged that his son’s teacher locked his boy in a metal cage as a punishment.

The man, identified as Azuan, shared on his Twitter account Tuesday that his son’s teacher informed the parents through WhatsApp texts, accompanied with images of the cage, that he had locked one of the students up because “he [the student] would not keep quiet and kept disturbing his friends,” reported The Strait Times.

Parents of the students in the class have become enraged by the revelations, especially when photographs have revealed that there was a fuse box inside the cage.

“It is dangerous. I don’t know what will happen if the children play with it,” Azuan said. “If it happens to my child, I will be angry.”

He added that he would report the issue to the local education office and urge the government to take actions against this type of punishment.

Local education office has reportedly received a complaint about the issue and met with the guardians of the caged child to discuss the matter on the same evening the report surfaced.
