Japan’s udon chain Marugame Seimen issued an apology to customers after a diner posted on Twitter saying he found a live frog in his takeaway cup of noodles.

As reported by StraitsTime, on Monday, Twitter user “Kaito,” posted on his account a video and photo of him using chopsticks to lift a live frog out of the broth at the bottom of his takeaway Shake Udon cup, which he bought at a Marugame Seimen outlet in the city of Isahaya the previous day.

Responding to the post, on Tuesday, the udon chain confirmed the incident and issued an online apology for causing concern and inconvenience.

They said that local health authorities had investigated the case and based on their conclusion, the frog was likely to have found its way into ingredients at the chain’s vegetable-processing factory.

The brand said they would reinforce quality inspection procedures at all of their factories.
