Hue in central Vietnam is renowned for dishes like bun bo Hue – a spicy beef noodle soup, banh beo – steamed rice cakes topped with shrimp or pork, and nem lui, grilled pork on lemongrass skewers.

Notably, bun bo Hue has been listed as one of Southeast Asia’s 50 best soups. Its broth is made by boiling pork and beef bones with lemongrass, sugar, annatto, and shrimp paste. The soup often includes brisket, crab balls, and meatballs.

Ho Chi Minh City, on the other hand, offers a mix of flavors with highlights like fried spring rolls, che (a sweet soup dessert), pho, banh mi, and bo kho (beef stew).

In addition, Vietnamese cuisine gains further international recognition with two iconic spots in Hanoi standing out. Trang Tien Ice Cream is ranked 13th among the top 100 Most Legendary Ice Cream Places, while Pho Thin secured the 63rd position among the top 150 Most Legendary Restaurants.

Established in the 1950s, the ice cream parlor, known for its range of Vietnamese flavors, stands as a symbol of Hanoi’s culinary history.

Pho Thin, operating since the 1970s, is known for its smoky broth and tender beef. It’s a popular spot among locals and tourists seeking an authentic Hanoi pho experience in a humble and bustling setting.

Beyond the top 100 best food cities and regions in this year’s TasteAtlas rankings, Vietnamese cuisine also secured the 22nd position among the top 100 global cuisines. Two Vietnamese dishes, banh mi and beef pho, feature in the world’s top 100 dishes list, securing the 14th and 100th positions respectively

Topping the list of 100 best food cities and regions are Rome (Italy), Bologna (Italy), Naples (Italy), Vienna (Austria), and Tokyo (Japan).
