Heatwave to envelop northern Vietnam until Wednesday

The northern region including Hanoi will experience hot weather until Wednesday under the impact of a low-pressure area, with temperatures rising above 37 degrees Celsius.

The low pressure formed in the west and is expanding eastward, and northern Vietnam will be enveloped by a heat wave from Monday, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has said.

Until Wednesday the average temperatures will be 35-37 degrees.

Late on Wednesday the heat will start to ease and rains will begin thanks to an intertropical convergence zone.

American weather site Accuweather has made the same forecast.

It said average temperatures in Hanoi on the first three days of this week would be 28-37 degrees Celsius and drop to 26-31 on Friday.

In Sa Pa Town, which is situated more than 1,500m above sea level, the highest temperature will rise to 26 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, it said.

The north started experiencing hot weather last week with the onset of summer.

On Jun. 20 and 21 Hanoi recorded temperatures of around 39 degrees Celsius, and, depending on terrain, it was two to four degrees hotter in some places.

Eight northern provinces, Son La, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, and Ha Nam, recorded temperatures of 37-38 degrees while in several other places they rose to a blistering 39 degrees.
