HCMC to spend $42M for infrastructure displacement for second metro line

HCMC plans to spend VND1 trillion ($42.5 million) over two years to displace infrastructure for land clearance for the second metro line’s construction.

At the opening ceremony for the displacement of infrastructure for the Ben Thanh-Tham Luong metro line on Thursday, Nguyen Quoc Hien, deputy head of the HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways, said the displacement would help clear spaces for the construction of stations and tunnels in 2025.

The project’s main investor said the displacement would be done over 20 months. It would be done in two phases, with the first phase involving the displacement and construction of drainage, power and telecommunications infrastructures in corridors along the stations. The second phase would involve the permanent displacement and establishment of infrastructures in accordance with the project’s design and its surroundings.

The main investor would apply the building information modeling (BIM) during the process to detect conflicts between areas of construction and deploy appropriate construction methods.

Bui Xuan Cuong, deputy chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, the amount of infrastructures along the second metro line is great, meaning their displacement and establishment play a major role. Due to the large amount of workload, the city has requested construction units to not let the process cause congestion and affect people’s lives. Units that manage power, water and telecommunication systems should also have measures to make sure there’s no service disruption.

The Ben Thanh-Tham Luong metro line, with a total investment cost of over VND47.8 trillion, would run through six districts: 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu. It would span 11 km with nine underground stations and an elevated one. The project’s initial completion time was supposed to be in 2026, but has since been extended to 2030.

The land clearance process for the project has been 87% completed, and the process is expected to be done at the end of this year.
