A murder suspect in HCMC was arrested Tuesday after spending three days hiding in a lemon orchard in the neighboring Long An Province.
Tam, 27, was caught by the police in a lemon orchard of Long An’s Ben Luc District at 10:30 a.m. He was handcuffed and taken outside by police officers in civilian clothes.
Over the past three days, hundreds of police officers of Long An and HCMC had been cooperating to surround the lemon orchard, spanning hundreds of hectares and with several canals. The terrain can only be traversed on foot.
Officers split into teams and searched every grove, using military dogs and drones to search various sites.
The murder took place on Saturday last week, with people hearing screams coming from a café on a National Highway 22 section in HCMC’s Hoc Mon District.
A man with bloodied clothes then sped off on a motorbike towards Long An. Local people nearby saw a 30-year-old female employee lying on the ground with several wounds. She was rushed to hospital but later died.
Police of HCMC and Long An analyzed camera footage and saw a person similar to the man in an area of provincial road 830, Ben Luc Town. Several people searched for photos of the suspect and spread them online, with others confirming that the man in question had several characteristics with the suspect, and they reported the matter to the police.
Officers then chased after the man. The man eventually threw his motorbike to the side and hid inside the orchard with complex terrain in Luong Hoa Commune.
