HCMC man fined for fabricating information on Dak Lak attacks

A 56-year-old man, whose Facebook account is named Dung Dinh, was fined by the HCMC police department on cybersecurity and high-tech crimes on Friday for providing false information that violate the reputation of organizations and individuals.

The man said he had “personal frustration”, so when he saw news about armed groups attacking the People’s Committee offices of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes in the Central Highlands’ Dak Lak Province on Sunday, he posted on Facebook that the incident happened due to “land disputes between the people and local authorities.”

Authorities said such information was fabricated and requested the man to remove the content, as well as not making the same violations again.

Previously, five other people in Nha Trang, Ha Tinh and Quang Nam in central Vietnam were fined VND5.5-7.5 million each for similar violations.

Early on Sunday morning an unidentified group of people with guns attacked the Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur commune people’s committee offices in Cu Kuin District in the Central Highlands province.

Four police officers, two commune officials and three civilians were killed. Two other officers were injured. It is uncertain whether or not any of the attackers were injured or killed.
