Officers from the municipal police department and their colleagues in Binh Tan District arrested two employees of a karaoke bar for providing drugs to customers.
A manager of the parlor, Nguyen Thi Thom, 32, and another employee named Bui Thi My Hanh, 22, were found providing 10 ecstasy pills and an amount of ketamine to customers during a raid by HCMC and Binh Tan police early Sunday.
Thom was in charge of managing employees at the bar.
The raid also found 152 people using drugs together at the parlor, including both customers and employees. A quick, random test found 18 positive for narcotic substances.
Hanh told the police later that she bought the drugs from a man named Tran Van Hoai. Hoai, 28, has also been arrested.
Thom, Hanh and Hoai are being investigated for “illegal drug trafficking.” Drug trafficking is punishable by death in Vietnam.
The general manager of the parlor, Lam Hoang Kha, has been placed under house arrest as police investigate him for accommodating illegal use of narcotics. Those found guilty of this charge face jail terms of up to 15 years.
