HCMC customs seize $1 million of dollar notes bound for Thailand

Two passengers at HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat Airport were found trying to bring 10,518 U.S. dollar notes, each worth $100, to Thailand by painting them black.

Ho Chi Minh City Customs on Friday said they found the notes, totaling “over $1 million,” inside two suitcases belonging to two Vietnamese, aged 50 and 46. They were going to fly to Thailand’s Bangkok on the VJ803 flight.

“These are real dollars being painted black. However, in order to verify this, we would need to wait for authorities,” a source said.

An investigation is ongoing.
