Six streets in Hanoi’s Gia Lam District will carry the name of islands of Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, the city’s government said in a new plan.
According to Hanoi People’s Committee, the city will have 58 new streets in 15 districts and will name six after Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay), An Bang (Amboyna Cay), Nam Yet (Namyit Island), Son Ca (Sand Cay), Phan Vinh (Pearson Reef), and Tien Nu (Tennent Reef).
The plan to name those new streets will be submitted to the legislative People’s Council for approval next month.
Spratly Islands belong to Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province. Vietnam has consistently reaffirmed that it has a full legal basis and historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the islands.
China has been illegally occupying a number of reefs in the Spratly Islands since 1988.
