Hanoi streets ban vehicles for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s state funeral


Hanoi will ban traffic on certain roads for the state funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday and Friday, the traffic police announced Wednesday.

Authorities will ban all vehicles, except for those serving the state funeral and those with special badges, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday on certain roads, the Hanoi traffic police division said.

These roads include Tang Bat Ho, Pham Dinh Ho, Lo Duc-Tang Bat Ho, Nguyen Cong Tru, Yec-Xanh, Tran Thanh Tong, Nguyen Huy Tu, Le Quy Don, Nguyen Cao, Hang Chuoi and Tran Khanh Du.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, vehicles will be banned on Ho Tung Mau Street between intersections with Le Duc Tho and Nguyen Co Trach.

Vehicles carrying goods weighing over 500 kg, cars with over 29 seats (except public buses), trash collection trucks, vehicles to resolve problems, vehicles with badges and vehicles serving the state funeral will be banned from 6 a.m.-11 p.m. on Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday on Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Hai Ba Trung, Le Thanh Tong, Lo Duc, Nguyen Cong Tru, Tran Khanh Du, Nguyen Khoai embankment, the 401 embankment, Ngo Thi Nham and Le Thanh Tong streets.

From 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, police will ban vehicles on Tran Thanh Tong, Le Thanh Tong, Trang Tien, Hang Khay, Trang Thi, Dien Bien Phu, Tran Phu, Son Tay, Kim Ma, Dao Tan, Lieu Giai, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Tran Duy Hung, the Thang Long Avenue, Le Quang Dao, Le Duc Tho and Ho Tung Mau.

From 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, authorities will restrict vehicles carrying goods weighing over 500 kg, and cars with over 29 seats, on Ho Tung Mau, Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, Tran Dang Ninh, Nguyen Khanh Toan, Dao Tan, Kim Ma, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Duan, Nguyen Thuong Hien and Yet Kieu.

Hanoi police said those who wish to attend the mourning ceremony of Trong at certain sites need to carry their personal IDs with them, or use the VNeID application to get through security checks.

The Party leader passed away in Hanoi at 1:38 p.m. on July 19 due to old age and severe illness, at the age of 80.

He will lie in state at the National Funeral Home at 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. Mourners can pay their respect from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. A memorial ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on July 26, and he will be buried at Mai Dich Cemetery on Ho Tung Mau Street at 3 p.m. the same day.
