Hanoi aims to increase per capita income by 7% next year

In a Thursday conference on socio-economic development in 2024 by the Hanoi People’s Committee, the city aims for its GRDP to have a growth rate at 6.5-7%, and a per capita income at VND160-162 million.

It is also aiming for 95% of people in rural areas to have access to clean water, an increase of 5% from 2023. It also wants the rate of public transport use to increase to 22-25%, from 20% in 2023.

Hanoi said it has achieved several socio-economic development results in 2023. They include GRDP growth at 6.27%; a total national budget revenue at over VND400 trillion, 113.5% of the intended goal; and a total FDI value at around $2.9 billion, a 62% increase compared to last year.

However, the capital failed to achieve four intended goals: GRDP growth of 7%, increased investment capital, an export turnover increase, and the rate of industrial clusters with wastewater treatment facilities up to standards.

Several construction projects have also been delayed, including the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line, the renovation of old apartment complexes, environmental cleanup at several downtown rivers, solid waste treatment projects, and water shortages at certain districts.

Hanoi chairman Tran Sy Thanh said the capital would continue to simplify administrative procedures and boost digital transformation, especially databases on land, to resolve the issues.

The capital will also strive to complete strategic, long-term missions, such as amendments to the Law on the Capital, the planning of Hanoi for 2021-2030, with vision until 2050, and adjustments to the general planning of Hanoi until 2045 and beyond, Thanh said.
