Egyptian tourist retrieves bag with $1,800 lost at HCMC airport

Immigration officers at Ho Chi Minh City’s (HCMC) Tan Son Nhat International Airport on Monday returned a bag containing $1,800 in cash to an Egyptian tourist who lost it while waiting to complete entry procedures.

Ashraf Ahmed Metwally, 76, expressed his surprise and wrote a letter to thank the immigration officers at the airport for assisting him to find his lost bag.

While on duty on February 11, Major Nguyen Hong Trung, an immigration officer, found the black bag in the seating area designated for those waiting for visa issuance.

Though the airport staff used loudspeakers to find the owner of the bag, no one came to get it.

The officers then checked camera footage and identified Metwally, who had arrived in HCMC on an Emirates flight, to be the bag’s owner.

Metwally said he left it behind while he was waiting to complete entry procedures.
