Diners and staff at a restaurant in China’s Hubei Province went flying in the air when they tried to hold down a canopy in a gale earlier this week.
A video posted on video-sharing app Douyin showed strong winds on June 11 sweeping away the restaurant’s canopy cover, with many people trying to hold down its metal struts.
The 16-second video that has gone viral on Chinese social media showed them being lifted in the air along with it.
Local officials said the incident happened as strong winds swept through many parts of China, forcing businesses to put up outdoor awnings for guests.
The meteorological station in Yiling district, where the restaurant is located, had issued warnings about thunderstorms and strong winds.
The restaurant owner promised to give diners refunds amounting to some 50,000 yuan (US$7,000) since they were not able to eat.
