Da Nang to welcome first int’l flights post Covid late this month

Da Nang City, a popular tourism hub, is scheduled to welcome two international commercial flights from Singapore and Thailand on March 27, its first in two years.

The flight from Singapore is operated by Singapore Airlines, and the one from Bangkok by Thai Vietjet.

Nguyen Xuan Binh, deputy director of the city’s Department of Tourism, said nine carriers have announced to resume 10 international flights to and from the city.

This year, Da Nang expects to fully restore aviation to pre-pandemic levels with 31 international flight routes.

The Kuala Lumpur-Da Nang and Bangkok-Da Nang routes operated by Air Asia are scheduled to reopen on April 1 while the Singapore-Da Nang route run by Jetstar Asia is expected to begin service on April 10.

Vietnam Airlines also announced to resume its Singapore-Da Nang route on April 15 while Incheon-Da Nang route operated by Vietjet Air, Jeju Air and Jin Air will also resume next month.

Vietjet Air also plans to launch a new service from Da Nang to New Delhi in September as India was one of Vietnam’s growing tourism markets before the pandemic.

Da Nang, with its beautiful beaches and other stunning tourist sights, targets 3.32 million domestic tourists and 180,000 foreign visitors this year.

The city received 1.17 million domestic tourists last year, down 55.8 percent from 2019.

Vietnam fully reopened its borders Tuesday after nearly two years of closure. It has resumed its visa exemption policy for citizens from 24 countries, including ASEAN members, Japan, South Korea and several European economies.
