Cold front to bring rain to northern Vietnam

A cold front would barrel down northern Vietnam regions starting Saturday, plunging temperatures down to as low as 12 degrees Celsius, a drop of 4-5 degrees from Friday.

The cold front would reach the eastern parts of northern Vietnam on Saturday morning, before enveloping other regions of the north, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. Strong winds and rough seas should be expected.

From Friday evening to the end of Saturday, northern Vietnam regions would see rains.

U.S. weather forecast service AccuWeather anticipates Hanoi’s temperatures to be at 23-33 degrees on Friday, before dropping to 20-26 degrees on Saturday. Until Tuesday next week, temperatures would maintain at around 19-23 degrees. High-altitude areas like Lao Cai’s Sa Pa would see temperatures fluctuating at 12-18 degrees at the beginning of next week.

The cold front would also affect central Vietnam regions, with areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue seeing rains starting Saturday night. Extreme weather events, like hails and thunder, may appear.

Over the past three days, northern and central Vietnam regions have gone through a heat wave caused by a low-pressure area from the west, combined with effects of Foehn winds. In Son La and Hoa Binh, temperatures could go up to 38 degrees.
