Chinese traveler charged for attempted in-flight robbery

A Chinese man has been charged for attempting to steal belongings from three passengers on a flight from Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh to Singapore.

Yi Huaichun, 44, pleaded not-guilty to three charges of attempted theft at a Singapore court on Friday, Channel News Asia reported.

He will return to trial in January. If convicted, he could face a jail term of up to three years and a fine.

According to the indictment, Huaichun was arrested for attempting to steal from three passengers while boarding Cambodia Airways flight KR751 from Phnom Penh on Dec 15.

The indictment came just a few days after another 52-year-old Chinese national was charged with three counts of theft on Monday for allegedly stealing cash worth US$23,260 from three passengers on a Singapore-bound Scoot flight from HCMC, the Independent News Singapore reported.
