A flight from Chongqing to Hebei province in China was delayed for an hour after a female passenger refused to place her Louis Vuitton handbag under the seat in front of her.
A video shared on the Chinese social media platform Douyin last week showed the woman insisting on keeping her handbag beside her seat.
When flight attendants requested that she stow the bag under the seat in front, as per aviation regulations, the woman ignored their request and continued playing on her phone, South China Morning Post reported.
As a result, the flight had to return to the boarding gate, where the woman was escorted off the plane by security officers, causing a one-hour delay.
Air passengers are always required to keep their bags in overhead storage compartments or under the seat in front of them to prevent them from being thrown around during turbulence, which could injure passengers or block escape routes.
After the video went viral on Chinese social media, garnering over 4 million views, some online commenters criticized the woman’s behavior as a threat to aviation safety.
“She valued the bag more than her life,” one user commented on Weibo.
“Pray that I never encounter such a crazy woman in my life,” another user remarked.
Some also criticized the airline for handling the situation too slowly.
“It took about an hour to resolve this issue. Isn’t that a bit too slow?” one wrote.
