Brunei hotels fully booked ahead of Prince Mateen royal wedding


Hotels in the Brunei capital of Bandar Seri Begawan have seen a surge in bookings thanks to the royal wedding between Prince Mateen and girlfriend Anisha RosnahIsa-Kalebic.

Andy Goh, a general manager at one local hotel in the capital, said the room occupancy for the day of the Royal Procession on Jan. 14 is full, Borneo Bulletin news site reported.

Bruneians from across the country have booked an overnight stay to get a good spot to see the royal couple that will be passing through during the procession, he said, adding that guests have been making room reservations since October.

Molly Bong, director of operations at another hotel, said an embassy has made arrangements at the hotel in anticipation of guests from their country.

The wedding will last for 10 days with a proposal ceremony scheduled to take place on Sunday, Malaysian news site Hype reported.

An Islamic ceremony is planned for Jan. 11, with a reception and a parade in Bandar Seri Begawan on Jan. 14, according to People Magazine. It will officially conclude on Jan. 16.

Prince Mateen, 32, is Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 10th child and is sixth in line to the throne. A helicopter pilot and a major in the Royal Brunei Air Force, he has also played polo for his country in the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games.

Hong Kong’s Tatler Magazine listed him among Asia’s top 50 most eligible bachelors in 2016.

Anisha Rosnah binti Adam is the granddaughter of the Sultan’s special advisor.

She graduated from a prominent university in England, runs a fashion label, and co-owns a tourism business with a friend.
