BIS Hanoi students again achieve 100% pass rate in IBDP examinations

BIS Hanoi students have continued to beat the global pass rate average, placing among the world’s highest IBDP achievers for a sixth consecutive year.

Students studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) broke a new record at the British International School (BIS) Hanoi in 2023.

As well as achieving a 100% pass rate, their average score of 35 was the second highest in the school’s history and exceeded the global average of 30.24.

One student achieved a score of 45, which put her among the top 1% of IB students worldwide.

Besides, one in five students scored more than 40 points. This is the level of attainment required to gain admission to elite universities around the world, including the Ivy League and Oxbridge.

Also, 57.1% of the cohort earned the special distinction of a bilingual diploma (BD), which shows first language proficiency in two or more languages.

“We are proud of the achievements of our class of 2023,” Richard Vaughan, principal of BIS Hanoi, said.

“This reflects well upon our school culture that promotes academic excellence as well as the strong commitment from our student body.”

With almost 140 university acceptances so far, many BIS Hanoi students will continue their studies at the world’s best universities, including Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, University College London (UCL), and the University of Toronto.

With these remarkable IB results, many more offers are expected to come in from top universities in other parts of the world.

“Our students have shown tenacity and courage in the face of adversity, and the results reflect this,” Chris Newman, BIS Hanoi head of secondary, added.

“They have managed to reverse the global trend – the BIS average score has increased this year while the world average has fallen considerably.”

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is the world’s leading post-16 education program.

Recognized by more than 5,000 top universities in over 100 countries across the world, the IBDP at BIS Hanoi inspires students to excel academically, personally and creatively.

This excellence is achieved through dynamic teaching, real-world experiences, and the opportunity to truly personalize how and what students learn.

Armed with an IB Diploma, the majority of BIS graduates receive offers from their first-choice universities, half of which rank in the world’s top 100.
