Beauty pageant fined $2,300 for going ahead without permission

The organizer of the “Guong Mat Anh Bia” (Face of the Cover) beauty contest was fined VND55 million (around $2,300) for holding it without authorities’ permission.

A representative of the HCMC Department of Culture and Sports said Ben Thanh Media, organizer of the 2023 Guong Mat Anh Bia contest, was fined for holding the contest without the requisite licenses from the department, which violated the culture and advertising law.

Originating from the Miss World Business beauty pageant, Guong Mat Anh Bia is a contest that looks for “businesswomen that have kindness, visions, talents, and visuals” to be the faces featured on magazine covers.

This year’s contest concluded on May 30, with contestant My Nguyen being crowned the winner of the title.

Contests that violated similar laws have been inspected and fined by authorities in recent months.

Previously, the 2023 Ms. Global Success Business contest was fined VND55 million in June for holding the contest without permissions from authorities.

Similarly, a company founded by Miss International Queen 2018 Huong Giang, organizer of the 2023 Miss International Queen Vietnam, a beauty pageant for trans contestants, was fined in May for illegally holding the beauty contest.
