Auto sales soar 34 pct in first two months


Vietnam’s auto sales in the first two months surged 34 percent year-on-year to 53,544 units with four out of five top brands posting a double-digit increase.

Passenger cars accounted for nearly 80 percent of sales and increased by 42 percent year-on-year to 42,820 units, according to data from Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA).

Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco) led in sales with 22,213 units, up 48 percent year-on-year.

It was followed by Toyota, with 10,656 units, and Honda, at 5,601 units. The two brands saw sales rising 56 percent and 30 percent respectively.

Mitsubishi sold 5,263 units, up 14 percent.

Ford was the only brand that posted a sales decline of 42 percent to 1,557 units.

Last year, auto sales dropped 3 percent from 2020 to 383,444 units.
