Singapore was named the world’s seventh best city for a working vacation, rising by 14 places from last year’s ranking, according to a report by Swiss-based company International Workspace Group.
The island city surpassed several regional cities such as Jakarta (8th), Manila (16th) and Hong Kong (19th), according to the report which evaluated 30 cities across the world based on criteria of climate, culture, accommodation, transport, food and drink, happiness, broadband speed, and the availability of flexible workspace.
Singapore did well on the broadband quality and sustainability categories, the report says. The city-state serves as a “global gateway to Southeast Asia,” making it an attractive destination for travelers, it added.
Budapest topped this year’s list, followed by Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro.
Indonesia and Singapore recently introduced special visa policies for digital nomads.
Last month, Southeast Asia’s largest economy also introduced a new “golden visa” allowing stays of up to 10 years.
For the five-year visa, individual investors are required to set up a company worth $2.5 million, while the 10-year option requires a $5-million investment.
